Sweet "Tea" Apron

Hello Dear Reading Friends,

I sent the winning apron out awhile ago and figured it was past time to post some pictures of it for you.  So, as I swelter in this ridiculous heat and non-air conditioned house I will post something refreshing to look at!

Here's a detail of the cute teapot ruffle

I loved this fabric when I saw it, and since I know Heather loves all things "Tea" including her collection of teapots, I thought this would be perfect for her. Don't you just love the bright pops of color? It's such happy fabric.

Made from a pair of designer Calvin Klein's...bonus!
This was a fun project for me, and it's actually relatively easy.  I'll post a how-to for these little beauties soon.  It's such a great way to re-purpose old jeans you probably have in your family's giveaway bin.  A little bit of fun fabric and some basic sewing knowledge and you are good to go.

Here it is! Complete with sweet brown and white polka dot ties, so cute!
Hope you all enjoyed seeing Heather's Sweet "Tea" apron all done. Next blog...an update on that crazy chicken coop project!

Blessings,
J

Drumroll Please!

And the winner of the Hip Petunia Studios facebook page giveaway is... Heather Stinson!  Heather happens to be a great friend of mine that lives entirely too far away on the other side of the state. So happy I get to bless her with the winning prize, which since the vote ended in a tie, is her choice of either a tote or an apron "tool belt". I will post pics of the prize as soon as I can. Also, stay tuned because since I love winning fun things so much myself, you never know when there will be another opportunity to win something great!

Blessings, Dear Readers!

Giveaway Alert!

Hey there my sweet junking friends, thought I'd give you a heads up about a giveaway I am doing through my facebook page. In order to be entered in my drawing you just have to pop over to my facebook page: www.facebook.com/HipPetuniaStudios and like the page. That's it! Easy peasy, right? No catches, no gimmicks and I will be giving away either a fabulous "tool belt" apron or one of my adorable totes. If you'd like to place a vote for which one, drop me a line on the page. Whichever gets the most votes will be the piece I give away. As soon as I hit 50 likes on my page, I will draw for the winner and notify them through facebook.
Look forward to seeing you there!

Farm Chicks Favorite Find

I'll be the first to admit that I'm a total geek when it comes to all things "farmy" or slightly junk related, except the animal smells, not my favorite.  I am the biggest self-proclaimed geek however, when it comes to vintage fabric, trims or buttons. I used to spend hours going through every button in my grandmother's box of buttons when I was a kid even though I knew them all by heart. There is just something fascinating about an old damask curtain, a bright military button or a brocade table cloth. Maybe it's the history behind the piece, maybe it's just the fact that this or that beautiful piece of vintage fabric will find a new purpose under my sewing needle.

So it should come as no surprise, that my favorite find at "The Farm Chicks Antique Show" this year is of course, vintage fabric. Not just any vintage fabric mind you, but an absolutely gorgeous silvery gray brocade that will soon be appearing as new bags and totes.

I love the contrast of that sweet blue ribbon against the fabric!

I am so excited to start creating with it that I had to restrain myself from breaking out my sewing machine while my guests are still here.  (Maybe later tonight if I can't stand it any longer.) Even now, my mind is racing with ideas as I mentally run through my fabric stash to consider the possibilities.

Can't wait to play! I wish the color came through better on these pictures. I really need a new camera for this..
For the record, if you love junking and treasure hunting as much as I do and have yet to experience "Farm Chicks", start making plans for next June now, and setting aside some spending cash because you'll want one of everything!

As for my dear Hubby? He's still working on the chicken coop.

Blessings until next time!

Adventures in Chickens

After several years of promising my youngest darling daughter, "Next year, when we move out to the country," it was time to just do it, so to speak. So, at the end of the chick season last year I told her we would get chicks next year whether we moved or not and guess what? It's next year!

She and I went together to pick out our five (yes, five) baby chickens and bring them home to reside under a heat lamp until the chicken coop is finished. My darling daughter promptly named them: Ruffles, Nuffles, Truffles, Peanut Butter and last but not least, Hopson. (Where do kids come up with funny little names like that, I'd like to know!)

Our little "chicken mama" with Hopson, her favorite.

Our family dog contemplating "fluffy little snacks".  She wouldn't stop staring at them like this for the entire first week they were here. (You'll have to excuse the mess, this all took place in the middle of prepping for a show and my studio had just flooded.)

Secretly,or maybe not quite so secretly if you ask my dear husband, I have wanted to raise my own chickens for a very long time.  Fresh eggs to go with fresh veggies from the garden? Yes, please.  Fortunately, we happened to have an abandoned playhouse left by the previous owner that is now being converted into our new chicken coop.  My dear husband, ever the planner of all things mechanically inclined around here, laid out plans for the inside of the coop. Only after pouring over information online regarding chickens, nesting boxes, chicken yards, feeders and anything else slightly related that he could find and I'm pretty sure he went through several different ideas before settling on one he was happy with.

A view of the very cute, and soon to be pink, shutters on the side facing the house.

A view of the "people" door and the future chicken yard.

The chicken coop itself is a work in progress, but it's moving quickly and our happy little chickens should be clucking around their own yard in no time. I will be sure to update you on the progress and post pics when it's all done. (I plan to paint it to match the house.)

If any of my dear readers have tips or tricks regarding chickens, I 'd love to hear them!

Blessings,

Janet

A New Home For Hip Petunia Goodies

A small part of my stash of fabric waiting to be made into something fun!
I am so excited right now! I have a new home for my hand-made, up-cycled purses, totes, diaper and messenger bags right here in a local shop called "Sweet Repeat Boutique".

Sweet Repeat Boutique is a local kid's consignment and resale store that sells brand name children's clothing at very reasonable prices. I'll let you in on a little secret, this adorable shop is how I keep my daughter so stylishly dressed within our budget. If you haven't been in to meet the owner, Bernadette, and shop around or make a hair flower at her "make your own" hair flower station, you are missing out.  Bernadette carries name brands in her store as well as maternity clothes, high-end one of a kind dresses that are next to impossible to find (in pristine condition and at a fraction of the original cost); along with great home decor and accessories. Oh, and of course, one of a kind Hip Petunia Studios creations.

Be sure to stop by and check-out my new products at Sweet Repeat Boutique, and while you're there say "hi" to Bernadette for me. Happy shopping girls!
